Norwich - The Devil's Advocate
Norwich.
THE DEVILS ADVOCATE.
7a, Timber Hill. Tel: 01603-766000
The club is not shut and is in full swing. After visiting the club last week, I had a fantastic time: the girls are hot and horny, and I would recommend it to anyone. Great staff, and okay priced drinks. Look out for Laura and Lucy doing their lesbo double act it was mega. Going again for a stag do next month - can't wait. It all won Lapdancing Club of the Year in Front mag in June...

Unfortunately it seems as though The Devil's Advocate in Norwich has closed. This has not been confirmed but a large 'SOLD' board outside and no activity on a Saturday night seems a pretty fair indication. OK, it was not the best of venues but there is little else on offer in East Anglia. I did hear that the same organisation was maybe opening a venue in Cambridge but no news on this. Oh well, back to watching paint dry I suppose.

I felt I had to respond to the existing review of Devil's (as it's known locally), as I have had quite different experiences of the venue. Over the last year I have been about six times, and not once have I left feeling short-changed. The last reviewer admittedly visited over a year ago, so perhaps things have changed for the better since then?
Although a members' club in name, membership may now be paid for at reception (still £10). The downstairs bar has been refurbished, with plenty of seating (and the regular appearance of the dancers from upstairs as they head for the loos). Drinks are no more expensive than in the pub opposite ('The Murderers Arms'!!) where incidentally, most of the dancers meet up before they start for a livener.
Lapdancing is upstairs on Thursdays-Saturdays, generally 8pm - 1am. The room is small, but I think 'dreadfully uncomfortable' is a bit harsh (again, things may have changed). The atmosphere is relaxed, more like a pub than a lap-dancing venue, but with scantily-clad women, obviously. In the times I've been there, I've seen exactly one pole dance, which I think was for the benefit of the webcam, which runs till 11pm. The dances themselves take place in a room adjacent to the upstairs bar, separated by a door (usually manned by an unusually courteous bouncer).
The girls are all good-looking (mostly 8s, but one or two 9s as well), and generally pretty friendly. Most are more than happy to join you for a drink and a chat, especially when business is a bit slower. There is one absolute munter, though, who seems to get dances out of pity (and 'mates' buying her for their 'mate'). Other than her there are about a dozen different girls, of whom 5-8 work on any one night.
It is topless only, but (again, probably an improvement since last year) some of the girls do now give a 'proper' lap dance (i.e. actually in your lap) with plenty of contact and bum-in-lap action. Having said that, some don't, and adhere strictly to the three feet rule that is supposed to exist. The only way to tell who will give you your tenner's worth is to peek into the room when girls take punters in and out, or by word of mouth. My personal favourite is Laura, a stunningly voluptuous brunette who gives lap dances as well as any dancer I've seen in London or Amsterdam.
Overall, I'd give Devil's 8 out of 10. It basically doesn't provide a floor-show, unless you're there before 11, but the pay-per-views are generally good. I'd rather go to Brown's or the Axe, obviously, but if you find yourself in Norwich, it's definitely worth a look.

I travel the country quite regularly, trying to stay in town/cities where venues are. However, it really pisses me off that many places are supposed to have venues - Newcastle for instance - but I do not know where they are, and are not in your (or other) guides. And when there are contributions, no addresses or phone numbers. So I decided I must send my contributions in the hope that others would feel guilty and do the same.
The Devil's Advocate is a members club, but you can phone three days in advance, and pick your membership card (£10) up at reception. A slightly upmarket drinking club downstairs, with lap dancing upstairs on Wednesday (?), Thursday, Friday and Saturday. The room is quite small, with dreadfully uncomfortable and very low sofas, but plenty of light. Beer at approx. £2.40 a pint. A girl gets up to pole dance occasionally, and on the whole does a semi-strip half heartedly. On the subject of semi-stripping, the girl's don't take their knickers off either, when you've paid the £10 for a lap-dance!!?, and don't get anywhere close in. Some girls will chat, but some are a bit stroppy if you won't have a dance immediately, and tend to tell their mates that you are a no-goer, so you don't get approached by some of the others. Also, some locals get far too much attention when they don't appear to be spending any more on dances, leaving us out of towners with money in our pockets wanting. I hope the owners read this (the ignorant one with the goatee beard - the other one with glasses is usually o.k.) On the whole: 4 out of 10, with exception of an over 30's girl, small with long blonde hair who says she's a swinger, and is an exceptional mover. This place has really got to pull it's socks up - and the girls knickers down!
