Police raid and find nothing but it is still a story it seems. Trafficking raid I guess.

'Trafficking' - isn't the English language so wonderfully flexible nowadays!

And checking the immigration status of dancers has become a stock excuse for surprise visits by the police, which of course don't constitute harassment in any way, make, shape or form. :?

A meeting in reaction to the raid took place in Edinburgh this evening:

It looks as though an organised response by dancers to prohibitionist moves in Scotland is finally underway, much as happened in London in 2010, culminating in the formation of the ELSC in 2013.

It's about time someone or somebody supported dancers, but I wonder how many will join the union, given the transitory nature of many girls' participation in the industry. And I can think of a couple of venues that might favour non-union members when it comes to allocating shifts.

But it's a start.

If the clubs have any sense they will promote unions simply as it stops Sasha and co from using the poor weak dancer that has no choices. Annoys the hell out of me given the fact less choice owes a lot to not buying it campaigning to the councillors. If the there are more votes to be gained expect self interest to guide them. This is why many people need to get involved in signing petitions etc.

There's also the "better conditions = better dancers" argument - a classic example of a 'win/win' situation.

And as you say TonyN, unionisation will help cut irrelevant interlopers (who have nothing positive to contribute, but only want to destroy the industry and the jobs within it) out of the picture, by creating a formal framework for negotiations between dancers and management.

I know quite a few dancers who've been working in the industry for quite a number of years now, so their participation is far from transitory!

There were concerns last year that this venue might close for good (newspaper report)
Anyway, the club's website now says that it will re-open in some form at 4pm on 20th May..
