Bristol strip clubs to stay open despite proposed ban

Report from BBC news website confirming that permission has been granted to allow the two strip clubs in the city to remain open for another year.

Consultation runs to 19/12/21.

The results don't appear to have been published yet, nor has a meeting of the Licensing Committee been scheduled to discuss them.

As the consultation results have yet to be published and no full meeting of the Licensing Committee would appear to have been scheduled in 2022 to date, I thought I'd share the minutes from their meeting of the 08/03/21, when the consultation last was discussed under Item 46 of the agenda:

That's always brought up by the likes of Fawcett Society etc, pretty sure I read about a licencing meeting for one of the clubs in Bristol where this was brought up and the police said they'd had no reports of such relating to customers of the club in question.

Here's an interesting development - voters in Bristol have decided in a referendum held on the 5th of May that they no longer wish to have a directly elected Mayor:

Most 'city mayors' are only using the post as a stepping stone to a nation political career, very good news.

A Licensing Committee meeting has been scheduled for the 16th of June, the first since August 2021:

However, the result of last year's SEV Licensing consultation doesn't appear to be on the agenda - instead, the committee is due to discuss various other aspects of Bristol's nighttime economy. There's another meeting of the committee scheduled for the 28th of July, so it remains to be seen whether the consultation will be discussed then...

Results published. 86% oppose nil cap in city centre, 78% oppose nil cap in Old Market/West Street area.

Looks like there's nothing for the Licensing Committee to discuss then, beyond rubber-stamping the current SEV policy!
